When Jason was 12, his dad bought him a 2 year old Bay horse. Jason named him Leo. It wasn't long before Jason had the horse fully broke. Jason rode Leo practically every day. A few years later, Leo moved with the family from Montana to Utah. While here in Utah, Jason used Leo to be his roping horse in high school.
When Jason was 20, circumstances changed and he no longer had a place to keep his horse and didn't have the money to pay for food any longer. This left Jason with no other option but to sell the horse. Jason sold Leo to the Fullmer family in Circleville, Utah and said goodbye to his friend.
Year after year Jason regretted selling his horse. He thought about it more than once to go and find the people he sold his horse to and buy him back. But, never got around to doing it because he still didn't have the time or the place to keep the horse.
On Friday March 26th, Jason and I drove down to Richfield to pick up Jason's block from the machine shop, we passed a pasture and there was a horse in there that looked just like Jason's bay when he was growing up, he pointed it out and said "Sweetie that's what my old horse Leo looked like". While we were fueling up to head back home me and Jason talked about the horse and then he remember that the fullmers bought a farm in Richfield and they had horses on their land.
Before we left town we went back to the pasture because Jason wanted a second look, he got out of the truck walked out into the field and rubbed down the horse. The horse was on the fullmers property, a boy, a bay, same height, same markings, and to top it off the horse had a dent in his head. (Jason's brother Jeremy had a doberman dog that ran Jason's horse into a fence post and the horse had a permanent dent in his head) It was Leo!! Jason smiled and stayed with the horse for 10 or so minutes. They both had grew older over the years, Jason at 30 and Leo at 20.
It was so bittersweet. I was so glad that I got to see Jason with his horse. Jason was even more happy to encounter his friend. It was hard knowing that Jason had sold his friend to someone else and that we couldn't load the horse up and take it with us. We talked about buying the horse back on the way home but came to the conclusion that the horse was with good owners who love it and we would only be buying the horse back to watch it die. All and all it was a day worth remembering and I am so glad that we came across Leo.
